I went to my dear friend, Tiffany’s, baby shower last Sunday. She is expecting a sweet baby girl May 30th! While I was there I had the pleasure of meeting Tiffany’s grandmother, Oma. Oma shared with me some amazing stories about when God interrupts.
Oma said while driving southbound from Seattle on I-5 (a major freeway) with her daughter in the car, the driver in front of her swerved to miss a stopped car in their lane. There was no time for Oma to stop, and in shock, she threw her hands up in the air! She was headed right for the stopped car going around 60 miles an hour when God interrupted. Her car swerved into the shoulder and back into the lane around the stopped car! Away they went unharmed!
Her daughter asked, “Mom, did you see what just happened?”
Oma told me, “This is the way God has always been with me.”
When she was a very small girl and not yet able to swim she wandered into an outhouse that had a bathing basin deep with water. She climbed in unknowing that she could drown. She says the next thing she recalls is walking away from the outhouse fully clothed. God interrupted!
She shared that one time she needed to fix an outlet that was up high. She climbed on top of a metal chair and reached in with her hand. She had thought the circuit was off.
She should have been fried, instead God interrupted.
Friends, this is the God that we worship. He is paying attention. He really cares. Yes we still suffer, but, God uses that too. We can use suffering to be bitter or to glorify God and give to others.
There are countless times God interrupts our lives and we don’t even know what he’s doing. Sometimes it seems He is disrupting or impeding us when we cannot see the good that will come of it.
One more goodie from Oma:
She shared that while at the Puyallup Fair a man behind her started holding is hands out over her. She turned around to ask what the heck he was doing and he said, “I am trying to heal you.” She said she was weirded out and not very kind to him. He said, “I know you have chronic pain.” In disbelief she left. The next day she woke up feeling wonderful. She told me she didn’t have pain for six months! It was true she did have chronic pain and God used this man to give her rest.
1 Corinthians 12:9, “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit.”
God will use you to do great works too!
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
God will give you rest from your pain.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Dear Jesus, thank you for your faithfulness despite our fleeting faith. We become weary and cannot see you moving. I have learned Lord that when I cannot see you, you are still there. You have not forgotten me in my suffering. Your holy scripture assures us that we will not be put to shame in our faith. Romans 10:11 says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” I have seen this first hand because you have delivered me. Thank you for the opportunity to meet Oma and hear of your abounding grace. Amen.
